HELPINGPOINT

I am the founding trustee of Helping Point UK which was set up almost 20 years ago. It resulted from a chance meeting with Bidyuta who had arrived in London when I was a law student. He had just set up a small orphanage with a handful of children. I was so impressed by his dedication and vision that I incorporated the UK trust. Joy McElroy joined me soon after with Paul Harrison. After I had completed law school, I went to live in Vancouver. It was there that I met many wonderful and committed people who visited the projects with me, and helped set up Helping Point Canada. The global charity currently therefore comprises both Helping Point UK and Helping Point Canada. The trustees of both charity work in close cooperation, and with a vision to help as many needy people as possible.

None of the trustees draw any income from the charity, and all proceeds go to the projects in India. We oversee the running of the charity and ensure that money sent to India is spent in an accountable and efficient manner. Over the last two decades, we have seen continual growth and improvement in the charity, its oversight and governance structures, and the real-life effect it has on the ground.

I am now a lawyer in my day job, but use all of my skills to ensure that the charity is run in the best way possible.
